Call them Meliors, French presses, plunge filter coffeemakers or coffee presses. No matter what they are called, this method of making coffee allows the full flavor of the coffee to permeate your senses. No paper filter to trap and deny you your coffee.
Here's how it works: preheat the beaker with very hot water, remove, place fresh medium-ground coffee in the beaker. Pour "just off the boil" water up to the top ring. Place the plunger unit on top of the water level and let steep for 3 to 5 minutes. When the coffee is as dark as you like, slowly push the plunger down pressing the grounds to the bottom of the beaker where they remain. Your aromatic coffee is ready to enjoy.
The French press coffeemaker has heat-resistant glass, a stainless steel filter and plunger, with an oval knob and Sanoprene soft grip handle. Replacement beakers are available (see #56.Beaker). Price shown is for the 3-cup size.
