There are a host of qualities that make soapstone a superior material for slow cooking, baking, frying and sauteeing on stovetop, oven, or grill. It is a completely natural material and a great alternative for those who want to avoid cooking with metals. Soapstone heats evenly (no hot spots) and retains the heat (or cold) for a long time, withstanding temperatures over twice those of cast iron.
Like our other soapstone cookware, the bread baker is sold in its natural state, which is gray in color. Before use, it must be cured through a process of oil and heat which will permanently darken the stone, giving it a rich, lustrous patina. Repeated oiling and heating will make it stronger and virtually non-stick.
The bread baker is practical as well as decorative, and moves easily between oven to tabletop. Measuring 17-1/2" in length (handle to handle) and 6-1/2" in width.
Because of the excessive weight of this piece, a $4.00 charge for shipping and handling has been added.
