Used from ancient Babylonian times right up to the present, soapstone cookware is unsurpassed in the preparation and presentation of food. As a natural alternative to metal cookware, it can be used in the oven or stovetop and for most types of cooking: frying, broiling, slow cooking - they are all possible.
The heat (and cold) conduction and retention properties of this soapstone saute pan are remarkable. It will withstand temperatures over twice that of cast iron and hold heat (or cold) better than metal cookware.
Before using, soapstone must be cured through an application of oil and heat. Once cured, it will darken to a lustrous black color and will remain as carefree as any cookware you'll ever own. Simply wash with warm soapy water to clean.
The soapstone saute pan is 8-1/2" in diameter, 2-1/2" in height, and holds about 1.5 qts.
