Chemex Coffee Maker
Designed by chemist Peter Schlumbohm in the early 1940's, Chemex coffeemakers are elegant, one piece, hour-glass-shaped, filter coffeemakers machine-made of high quality, heat resistant glass. Found in the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the two- piece polished wooden collar girdling the waist serves as an insulated handle. The leather thong and wooden knob hold the collars together and add a decorative touch. La Belle Cuisine is proud to offer this elegant coffeemaker in four sizes: 1 to 3 cups, 6 cups, 8 cups, and 10 cups. Price shown is for the 1-3 cup size. Save $$ by ordering the coffee maker, filters, and lid (see chart below).
To make coffee: place a Chemex coffee filter paper in the carafe. Start with one rounded tablespoon of regular-grind coffee per 5 oz. cup and adjust to suit your taste. Pour a small amount of 200 degree F. water over the coffee grounds, just enough to wet them. Wait a few moments until the water flows through the filter, indicating that the coffee grounds have had enough time to "bloom." Gradually pour the rest of the water over the grounds, then remove the filter paper and serve. Can also be used for brewing tea. Chemex comes gift boxed with instructions.
